Way to go, Matt!

Matt Hamilton, a friend of mine and fellow writer, is walking on clouds these days. His book of poetry, The Land of the Four Rivers, has been named the winner for Peace Corps Writers 2013 Best Book of Poetry published in 2012. The prize represents a big breakthrough for a very deserving writer.
Published by Cervena Barva Press, the book features poetry that grew out of Matt’s first stint in the Peace Corps in Armenia (2006-08), He also served in the Philippines from 2008 to 2010, but foreign service is by no means the extent of the life experience that feeds his poetry. Prior to working as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill, he was a Benedictine monk and now works as a librarian at Benedictine College Preparatory, in Richmond, Va.

A 1999 graduate of North Carolina’s Belmont Abbey College, where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in History, Matt also holds an MFA degree from Fairfield University, in Connecticut.

He is a poetry reader for the online magazine, Drunken Boat. He was nominated for a 2013 Pushcart Prize and has published in A-Minor Magazine, Atticus Review, Boston Literary Magazine, Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, The Final Draft, and Noctua Review. You can find a review of the book and a bit of his poetry at: http://peacecorpsworldwide.org/pc-writers/2013/09/12/matthew-a-Hamilton/.
